29 September 2022 | I-5 Columbia Bridge Replacement

As the only continuous north-south interstate on the West Coast between Canada and Mexico, Interstate 5 is a vital trade route connecting communities along its corridor. The Interstate Bridge enables significant economic activity within the region and across the West Coast with over $70 million in freight commodity value daily in 2017 alone. However, bridge users are impacted by heavy congestion, safety concerns, limited transit options, and inadequate active transportation which provide substantial constraints on the growth of the community and the state as a whole. Replacing the aging Interstate Bridge with a modern, earthquake resilient, multimodal structure will improve safety and keep Northwest travelers – and our economy – moving.

17 March 2022 | SAE Oregon Presents: The Early Years of the Cummins and Dodge Ram Marriage

Chrysler had an old truck that had few customers and low manufacturing volume in the early 1980s. Competitors GM and Ford were each rumored to be working with partners on a diesel engine program, respectively Isuzu and IH. In an attempt to gain market share and also deliver a diesel powertrain option, Chrysler wrote a contract with Cummins in 1985 to develop a competitive product. As we will hear, their humble estimates were far outdone in both sales volume and partnership longevity.

Speaker: Seppo Saarinen

30 September 2021 | Corvette – An Insider’s Perspective

The Chevrolet Corvette has defied the odds ever since it first launched in 1953 as a mild-mannered sports car more attuned to a boulevard drive than a twisty road. But that changed in a hurry thanks to efforts of a Russian engineer named Zora Arkus-Duntov and his equally talented successors such as Tadge Juechter. Corvette historian and author Jerry Burton guides us through a brief history of Corvette with a special emphasis on the mid-engine evolution of C8. On the eve of the 600-plus horsepower Z06 with its DOHC flat-plane crank V8, Burton explores what keeps Corvette in the conversation against the best sports cars in the world.
